ANNOUNCEMENTS

  1. We are happy to welcome Glennis Shih to our 10/24 Sunday service to share updates about her ministry. She is a local missionary that Newtown supports. Glennis is entering year 15 being on staff with the Epic Movement, the Asian American ministry of Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ). She currently serves on the People & Culture team as a People Services Coordinator to provide care for Epic’s staff and is also involved in the field as an on-campus staff member at Queens College to mentor, train and encourage students and faculty. For more info on her ministry as well as ways to support her, please visit https://give.cru.org/0511016

2. We welcome Josh Wilson as our guest speaker today. Josh and his wife Danielle teach at the Geneva School of Manhattan. Their three children also attend. Josh loves preaching from the Old Testament. He was a pastor for seven years in Michigan, and has taught English for the past eight years. His favorite hobby is golfing, and his goal is to have a son or daughter that will someday beat him in a round. But he doubts that will ever happen.

3. The Elder Candidates for the election are Michael (Chuen) Chen (T); Ning Zhang (M); and Chris Kuo (M). The Deacon Candidates for English Congregation are Catharina Lee and Irene Ng. Introductions of the candidates to the congregation and biographies will be coming soon.   Please continue to pray for the candidates, the elections and our leaders.

4. Due to the possibility of our church being unable to meet together for a one-day election, our consistory election will be run as a combination of mail ballot and drop-off ballot at the church over TWO weeks from Nov. 7th to Nov. 21st, 2021.

Therefore, if any English congregation members will be unable to drop-off a ballot at the church between the above dates, please click on the button below to request a mail-in ballot.

5. We are planning to open up our gates to the community after church on Sunday, Oct. 31st by hosting a “Trunk-or-Treat” event in the two parking lots. We are hoping to create an edifying alternative to traditional Halloween practices.  We are looking for volunteers to help set up booths and games or donate items to give away. This is a joint English and Mandarin congregation event. If interested, please contact Ivy Chang or english.deacons@newtown.church.

6. Do you like to sing? We are gauging interest for a small Advent choir lead by vocalist and musician, Tabea K., to perform on Sunday, Dec 19th during service. Rehearsals will take place after Sunday service for several weeks prior to Christmas. Please email english.deacons@newtown.church if you are interested!

7. Pastor Johnson Huang’s ordination and installation will take place on Nov. 7th starting at 4PM. The service will be live-streamed, but all are welcome to attend in-person. Details will follow.

8. Please continue to support the various ministries at church by tithing online at newtown.church/donate or by using the large tithing box outside of the sanctuary center doors.
